Overview

This tour follows the Serchio river, where it takes its natural landscape, the bed broken by the water jumps, the bushy terraces with many varieties of birds. The Puccini cycle path (named from the famous composer Giacomo Puccini who was born in Lucca) connects the Serchio valley to Lucca, where we can admire the medieval towers and the “Rocca di Ripafratta”, reaching the ancient walls of Lucca. The path above the city walls offers a breathtaking view. Art, music, history, food, wine, Lucca is a source of incredible treasures. We will cycle through the narrow streets downtown where the towers stand out above the roofs. The Guinigi Tower with its hanging garden on the top; the ancient shops along via Fillungo, the squares of the Roman amphitheater and that of Napoleon, so enchanting! For a gourmet stop in Lucca, visitors are spoiled for choice: from cecina, to necci (chestnut pancake) with ricotta, buccellato, Lucchese soup, etc… We are sure you will enjoy all!

Great service at an excellent price.

Friendly folks, with great service. I contacted them on short notice and they immediately responded and helped me rent a bike for the self-guided ride to Lucca, which was magnificent! Thanks for going the extra mile (or kilometer) to help me out, off-season, with short notice. The equipment was in excellent condition, the staff very helpful, and with great communication. Enjoying the beautiful ride on a sunny and warm February day was one of the highlights of my winter trip to Tuscany. Thanks for putting a smile on my face!

I live in Tuscany, about 45 minutes from Pisa and had friends out from the UK who wanted to do a bike excursion. I looked around, found Smile&Ride plus an option in Lucca. Calling both companies, the difference in reception was incredible. Elena at Smile&Ride was super-friendly and helpful on the phone and made me feel we were in good hands, so we chose Smile&Ride on the basis of first impressions. Great service when we picked up the bikes, making sure we had all we needed to have a great day out and I have to say the prices, compared to other alternatives, are more than fair. Fantastic cycle along the river to Lucca, a great lunch, and then we added the extra few kilometres in to take in some hills on the way back to Pisa. Absolutely amazing and glad we did that, instead of simply going back the same way. We have many visitors and I will definitely be suggesting this as a great day out.
