My wife and I had a wonderful experience on this private tour of Teotihuacan. Our guide, Fermin, is an archeologist, and his depth of knowledge regarding this site and the field in general was reflected in his insightful comments and thoughtful responses to our questions. He took the time to point out things that I'm sure other tour guides would have ignored, such as the multiple layers of limestone paste visible on some of the steps and the features of an otherwise nondescript rock on the Avenue of the Dead which turns out was an eroded statue of a goddess. He also had us stop at an oft overlooked house in a neighborhood with strikingly well-preserved wall paintings. We did stop (at our request) at the gift shop/tequila tasting which also included a quick but enlightening explanation of the myriad uses of the agave plant (who knew that some of the leaves could be used as a pre-made needle and thread?) that to us made the stop worthwhile. We passed on lunch (to our regret) because we were still pretty fully from breakfast. Since this was a private tour, Fermin clearly let us know that any of these stops were up to us. This was a definite highlight of our trip to Mexico City, and this tour is most highly recommended!
