Overview

The Pyramid Lake Canoe Adventure with Wild Current Outfitters is an excellent way to start or finish your day in Jasper National Park. Join a small group, on a unique canoe adventure for couples, friends, and families, and be blown away by the numerous snowcapped peaks and the chance to see the wildlife that calls the area home. Keep an eye out for osprey, loons, muskrat, and beaver. Fingers-crossed, you may even see moose, bear, elk, deer, and wolves!

Meeting points

We will meet guests at Pyramid lake Resort. It is a very short drive from Jasper approx 10 minutes. We will meet at the beach in front of the resort. Look for a big wooden canoe.

Itinerary

Prepare to experience a relaxing paddle adventure in a cedar strip canoe. Guided by a certified knowledgeable local guide you will be plying the waters of Pyramid Lake at the base of Pyramid Mountain, experiencing the laid-back mode of transportation used in Canada for generations. After a quick on-shore learn to paddle session and being suited up with a PFD we are ready to go. Departing from the sandy beach at Pyramid Lake Resort you can experience a 2.5 to 3 hour trip on a 25 foot long locally sourced handcrafted cedar strip canoe. Built for maximum stability and stocked with an ample supply of blankets and outerwear for those cool mornings this canoe is a comfortable craft for groups of up to 6 people. The tour circumnavigates a clear mountain lake taking in classic Rocky Mountain vistas, wildlife viewing opportunities, and a shore-side stop halfway through the tour for a chance to stretch our legs and have shore side snacks including fruit, baked goods, and a coffee and tea service. After the break which perchance may have included a swim on a sandy beach, we continue on the last leg of the tour finishing back at our point of departure.

Must do canoe trip in Jasper!!

Our first visit to Jasper. This trip was very well organized and the trip leader was fantastic. It was a very special part or our Canadian adventure. We were very well taken care of from the moment we arrived. Canoeing was low stress and it seemed like we had our own private lake. We stopped at a beach half-way through the trip for hot tea, cocoa, and fresh treats from local bakeries. This was a highlight of our vacation.

The highlight of our trip to Canada! Mike was incredibly knowledgeable and the scenery was breathtaking. Didn’t feel like we had to put any effort in canoeing, and time flew by as it was so enjoyable. Lovely having a half way break too at a secluded beach and some local baked treats and hot chocolate. So pleased we did this - a must if you’re visiting Jasper!

The best tour I had in Jasper. It is a small private tour, we were only 5 including Mike the guide. They were kind enough to offer pickup/drop-off from downtown. They also provided hats for the tour, which was a big plus for me. They also made their own canoe, which you can tell the quality is very good. The tour felt amazing because Pyramid lake is less crowded and we were the only boat on the whole lake most of the time. The view was amazing and Mike is very knowledgeable about the area. We were brought to this private island that is only accessable by boat, we had some great desserts over there while dipping our feet in the water. You can also go swimming for a bit if you'd like, there're towels provided. Highly recommend if you want to spend some time on the water and enjoy a smaller group setting.

The water is so calm and the reflection of Pyramid mountain was beautiful. We learned about fauna and flora in the area and saw an eagle. Even though you are in a canoe, it was a peaceful, relaxing and educational activity and to top it all off you have a delicious picnic with hot drinks on the beach. I highly recommend this tour as it was such a nice experience.

We spent an incredible Sunday morning with Mike on one of his canoes. There were five of us, kids ages 12–16. Everyone agreed it was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. We often kayak, but it was so much fun to be able to all be together. We covered a large amount of the lake during our three hour trip. Saw an elk in the water, bald eagles, loons. Had a beautiful stop with a delicious breakfast and warm drinks, and some of my crew went for a cool morning swim. We had a great time with Mike, he made us all very comfortable, took some beautiful family photos for us, and we laughed so hard many times. He is an incredible resource on the area and so knowledgeable about the wildlife, the geography. Cannot recommend enough. I was initially hesitant to book a tour because we feel very comfortable exploring on our own, however, it was 100% worth it and I am so glad that we did. We had so much fun and learned a ton. Thank you Mike for an incredible morning, you run a first class business!
