Overview

Our first stop will be at the picturesque Village of Laneia; a walk through the beautiful flower lined streets and stone houses. Next stop will be in Troodos Square, in the surroundings of the pinewoods, you may enjoy a coffee break and wander around the stalls selling traditional products. Continuing up the mountains, we will arrive at the island’s most famous and wealthiest monastery, Kykkos. With its gold decoration, paintings and mosaics, the monastery possesses a precious icon of the Virgin Mary painted by the Apostle Luke. Following on the peak of the mountain, we will have the opportunity to visit the stunning Throni tis Panagias. Next, you will have time to relax and enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant. After lunch, we will visit a winery for wine tasting. Here you can try a variety of locally produced exquisite wines. Lastly, we will stop at Omodos village; where you can visit Timios Stavros Monastery; the local bakery, try a Cypriot coffee made in the traditional way.

Next stop will be in Troodos Mountains Square, in the surroundings of the pinewoods, you may enjoy a coffee break and wander around the Stalls selling traditional products.

Kykkos Monastery

Continuing up the mountains with beautiful forest views, we will arrive at the island’s most famous and wealthiest monastery - Kykkos. Founded at the end of the 11th century and dedicated to the Virgin Mary. With its impressive gold decoration, paintings and mosaics, the monastery possesses a precious icon of the Virgin Mary painted by the Apostle Luke.

Following on the peak of the mountain, we will have the opportunity to visit the stunning (Throni tis Panagias) of Kykkos. Well worth it, to experience the wonderful views of the beauty of nature all around; it is here that during long periods of drought, the monks of the nearby Kykkos Monastery used to climb to the top of the mountain, place the Virgin Mary icon on a wooden “throne” and pray for rain. It is also the location of the tomb of the first President of the Republic of Cyprus Archbishop Makarios III.

Next, you will have time to relax and enjoy lunch at a nearby mountain traditional restaurant.

After lunch, we will visit a winery for wine tasting, located in the island's best grape region. Here you can try a variety of locally produced exquisite wines, including the famous “Commandaria”, which is one of the oldest named wines in the world.

Lastly, we will stop at Omodos village; where you can visit Timios Stavros Church of the Holy Cross; the local bakery, try a Cypriot coffee made in the traditional way. Wander around this interesting village with its craft shops. Omodos is situated in the heart of the wine producing countryside, with the beauty of nature all around.

We've just got back from an excellent day trip to the Troodos Mountains with Chris from Ascot Travel. Chris was very friendly, professional, informative, helpful & accommodating. We had all kinds of weather aimed at us from sunshine to snow, in a matter of hours. Chris's driving was really impressive. He dealt with the snow, very low cloud and icy rock strewn roads very calmly and efficiently. We felt extremely safe in his hands. I've been coming to Cyprus regularly for over 45 years now, and consider myself quite knowledgeable about the island. However, Chris told us things today that I knew absolutely nothing about, so we'll done you. We're hoping Chris will be our driver/guide on the next trip we take with Ascot Travel. Loved his taste in music too

The trip was super, from start to finish. Our guide and driver, Chris, picked us up promptly in a modern, comfortable minivan. The trip was well planned, scenery and places we visited were stunning. The restaurant where we stopped for lunch was lovely, the food superb and good value. Chris, our guide was friendly, courteous and humorous and provided in depth and knowledgeable commentary on the places we visited and Cyprus generally. The whole experience was great value and thoroughly enjoyable and I would not hesitate to book again with this company.

This excursion is to do if you pass by Limassol and you want to discover beautiful landscapes. The guide was very involved, we had a good time!

Chris was prompt in picking us up and very knowledgeable about the villages and churches we visited. I would suggest warm clothes as there is still snow at the top of the mountains I would also suggest that it would be nice to stop at a waterfall instead of one of the villages. We had a great day out and learnt a lot at the same time.
