Overview

The first time that Easy Company part of the 101st. Airborne division reached the hills of Obersalzberg most of the buildings in that area where destroyed. If you visit this area today you will see that a lot has changed, the forest has taken over and a big parking place leads people straight up the mountain. This tour is here to provide you with far reaching insight of the historical locations hidden in the forest, see the ruins of Hitler's house and other WWII sights that will bring history to life. Then hike up from there to the Eagle's Nest and you will following the steps of the first American soldiers that got there by foot in May 1945. Even though the Eagle's Nest is one of the most visited places in Germany our tour will take us thru a more richer and less traveled path. The tour is a mix world history, exercise and incredible landscapes. I take pride in offering the best possible experience to deliver professional and safe guidance in the mountains with a relaxed atmosphere.

Meeting points

Meeting point is at the entrance of the restaurant Berggasthof Obersalzberg. Optional: if you want to start travelling from Salzburg to the meeting point by bus we can meet at the train station at 8:00 Mon-Fri, 9:00 Sat-Sun and holidays (bus ticket is 11,60 euros cash. Inform what is best for you).

Kehlsteinhaus

The Eagle's Nest is located in the imposing summit of the Kehlstein mountain. Even to this date not such place has being build. People taking the tour will discover all the history behind its construction, win insight about the role it plays today in society and have the opportunity to explore the incredible landscapes of the Bavarian Alps.

This part of the tour is unique because the location is so rich historically, only if you know where to look. We will hike around the area of Obersalzberg, the place where Hitler and many other high ranking officers had their houses. The tour will give an insight of the historical importance of that area, how it was transformed into a nazi town and what decisions where taken there that affected the life of millions.

Highlight of our trip

We actually did this hiking tour in June 2022, and I neglected to write a review. But we often talk about it as the highlight of our trip! Our family of 4 (two boys, ages 16 and 11 at the time) thoroughly enjoyed the scenery, as well as the history told like a story the entire way up. Highly recommend this option if you're planning to visit Eagle's Nest.

We went on this tour not knowing what to expect and we were totally surprise, it was really amazing! Claudio knowledge of the Eagle nest area and history is quit fascinating. Communication is easy, his english is good. Sadly due to snowfall earlier in the week, the Eagle nest access was closed. Claudio organised a trail around the mountain and it was a wonderfall experience. We really recommend this hike, Claudio is a great guide. Josee and Lou from Canada

If you are visiting the eagles nest and up for the challenge, hiking is definitely the way to go. The tour guide is very knowledgeable and great to talk with, no language barrier at all as an English speaking visitor. The views from the hike are spectacular. You also get some bonus historical stops off the main path that you wouldn’t get otherwise. Both my wife and I agree this was the highlight of our 2 week trip. Worth every penny!

This was a wonderful hiking tour! Claudio was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. During the walk/hike up to Eagle's Nest Claudio relayed much of the history of the area and WWII and pointed out sites you don't see on the bus ride up. He was very well-versed in the history of the area and a fantastic guide. We very much enjoyed the tour and highly recommend Claudio!
