The municipality Nordeste covers the northeastern part of the island São Miguel. It is the least populated area of São Miguel. The highest elevation of the island is here, Pico da Vara (1103 metres). Here is the home of the Priolo. The priolo is an endemic bird, restricted to the eastern part of the Island, namely to the mountainous area located among Pico da Vara, Planalto dos Graminhais.

We went on a jeep tour to nordeste. Our guide Eduardio took use to the most beautiful spots on the nord and east side of the island. And for a bonus he gave us tips for some trails to hike and restaurants to eat. What turned out to be great tips.

Eduardo was one of a kind. He is knowledgeable, engaging, funny and warm. We were a family of 6 and everyone loved him!!! Not only did he show us the best spots in Nordeste, but he had us try the best mackerel of our lives. Green zone is beyond lucky to have him as a guide. A true gem.
