Itinerary

On the Ice Exploration tour, you'll spend about 2 hours (4-6 km) hiking on Breiðamerkurjökull, a glacier outlet of Vatnajökull. Your guide will explain how glaciers form and change, affecting their surroundings. You'll see various natural attractions, including mountains, ashy ice, and possibly blue ice. The tour activities vary based on daily conditions and group preferences, with options to explore larger glacier areas or enter moulins and crevasses. Rated medium in difficulty, the tour requires participants to walk 4-6 km on diverse terrain and in varying weather conditions. No prior glacier experience is needed. We provide crampons, helmets, and safety harnesses. Guides will ensure you're prepared before starting. Dress according to the weather; the glacier is usually as cold as the Glacier Lagoon meeting point. Wear warm, breathable clothing and sturdy shoes. Meeting times are 08:30, 12:00, or 13:45. Glaciers are alive!

What an experience! Our guide, Iga, was amazing. Her instructions were clear & helpful. Her passion for the glaciers was infective. She gave them life! I now almost look upon them as living beings in a sense. She said it was her dream job & it was obvious. To be on a glacier, something so ancient, was almost a spiritual experience. Winter is my favorite season and you can't get much better than being on the ice. One piece of advice: while I'm in very good shape for a 71 year old, I sure wished that I'd prepared by daily hauling ass on the steep hills where I live. Will certainly do that next time if they allow people in their mid-70's on the hike! A worthwhile adventure.

Amazing glacier hike! Our tour guide was passionate about teaching us the transitions and changes the glacier goes through. We had the chance of seeing a few beautiful mini ice caves that were formed and drink glacier water. I highly recommend this tour for the range of things you get to see and experience!

My glacier tour was simply amazing! During the hike we admired breathtaking views, blue crevasses, shimmering ice formations and beautiful landscapes that seemed to be from another planet. From the moment I met our guide I knew we were in for a special adventure. His kindness and helpfulness made me feel comfortable and safe. Mateusz not only shared his knowledge about glaciers but also inspired us with his passion for this incredible place. This experience will stay with me forever! I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to discover the beauty of nature in such a unique way!
