Itinerary

Arenal 1968 Volcano View & Trails

The tour starts with a hotel pickup followed by a 30-minute drive to the 1968 Arenal Volcano Park, where you will start your activity, a 2.30 hour hike to the base of Arenal Volcano. The hike is fairly easy and most of it is over flat ground. The goal is to arrive at a Dry lava field from 1968 eruption (this part of the trail is rocky), see it, talk about it and give you all the history about the Arenal Volcano.

La Fortuna Waterfall

Afterwards, you will be driven for another 30 minutes to reach La Fortuna Waterfall. The hike to the base of the waterfall has about 500 steps (which you will need to climb back up). Once at the base, you will have some time to swim and enjoy the waterfall.

Arenal Hanging Bridges

You will spend about 2.5 hours hiking in a primary rainforest, where you will cross about 16 hanging bridges called the Mistico Hanging Bridges. This hike in a large forest with nothing compared to the one in the Volcano Trails, so enjoy it as much as you can..... and remember it's a Rainforest so expect rain, and bring your rain gear.

Great tour, very active, take Dramamine if you’re going to sit in the back of the van!

Our tour guide was fantastic, and she was very knowledgeable about the animals, insects, plants, history, etc - and very passionate about it, and it made the experience really nice. This is a very active tour, so younger kids may have a hard time keeping up. Wear nice hiking shoes! Terrain is super rocky! Unfortunately we sat in the back of the transport van and the driver went FAST on the winding roads, so my husband and daughter got sick and had to skip the waterfall. Luckily no one threw up, but even with motion sickness meds, they were feeling really queasy.

Highlight of our trip to Costa Rica!

This experience was truly the highlight of our 10-day trip to Costa Rica. Yes, it is a very full day with all three activities (plus a delicious lunch), but did not feel rushed or overwhelming at all. Our guide was so personable and knowledgeable about all three areas -- clearly he loves what he does, and his joy and enthusiasm were contagious. He shuffled the order of our activities based on the weather forecast (it's a rainforest, and yes, it RAINED, a lot). Walking on the Mistico Bridges was a bucket list item, we saw monkeys, snakes, many birds and so many other animals; I learned a ton about volcanoes by being there and walking on the lava paths; and the La Fortuna waterfall was absolutely gorgeous and worth the challenging 500+ steps. Highly recommend!

The tour was great! We saw birds, lizards a snake, howler monkeys and a sloth. Will, our guide was fantastic! He was knowledgeable, friendly and personable. Recommend 100%

We had a great day with Val, our guide, and Giovanni, our driver. Both were very professional and all the elements of our tour went very well. Val is very knowledgeable and clearly has a love for her job and her native Costa Rica. We started with the hanging bridges tour, which was really enjoyable, then went to La Fortuna waterfall. We then took a lunch break and I wish I’d taken a picture of the very nice, authentic lunch Green Vacations prepared for us. It was delicious and a cultural experience, itself. We finished up with a hike in Arenal National Park, following the lava flow trail from the 2010 eruption, and peaked facing the crater from that episode. It was an educational walk and Val helped us understand why the cone of the volcano appears the way it does, with two peaks. In short, we walked a LOT (I logged over 15,000 steps) and it was up and down hills and steps, so I’d suggest anyone who’s not accustomed to that kind of walking either think twice, prepare in advance, or perhaps just choose one or two of the events rather than all three. That said, it was a great day and I’d gladly do it again.

Excellent adventure

Green vacations was great, well organized, and met our expectations. The weather was a challenge but our guide provided many options and flexibility for the group and kept safety a top priority. Hanging bridges was fun and adventurous, we managed a short hike around Arenal volcano even though it was lots of rain and wind, and then we went off to the waterfall. The tipica lunch provided was fabulous. Fresh and served to perfection. I would recommend using Green Adventures!
