My father and I visited Iceland at the end of September as a father-son bonding trip and for my dad to visit his roots (his grandfather was from Iceland). In any case, I really wanted to see the Northern Lights. We booked a tour with Thor and it was a really solid experience. Thor and my dad talked the whole time (because my dad loves to talk) about Iceland and all kinds of other stuff, and he was very personable. We started with the lagoon, which was great, and then had dinner at the nearby restaurant. Then it was time for the Northern lights. At first, the lights were pretty whispy at about 9pm local, but by 10, they started to be way more dramatic, and we could see them dancing and shimmering in the air, and we had one particular spectacular spot (Thor drives you around to different spots as the aurora moves) where it was just great. It was purple and green and dancing all over. I was frozen, so I huddled in the car for a chunk of the time. So solid recommend from me, but also, seriously, bring something that's good against windchill. I thought I was fine because it wasn't a problem in Reykjavik but it is MUCH windier and colder outside of the city.

Excellent guide! Informative, entertaining, and accommodating. Private tour is the way to go. We saw the best Northern lights

We booked a private tour after booking numerous group tours, only to have them cancel saying they were booked, even though their calendar showed openings. I am so thankful that I did not give up and kept searching for a tour. We only saw minor Northern Lights, but not for lack of Thor trying. The weather was not optimal the entire time we were in Iceland. The Secret Lagoon was very nice and we forgot our towels, so Thor rented them for us at his own expense. We also had a discrepancy in the tour description and he was very kind and efficient in rectifying the situation I would highly recommend avoiding the big bus group tours and booking your tour with Thor for personal attention and peaceful experience at your own pace.

This was one of the best if not the best tours I have been on. Everything was perfect. We started by driving to the secret lagoon. Thor is extremely knowledgeable and provided many facts about Iceland and I asked him a ton of questions. The secret lagoon is beautiful and not too busy this time of year. It was extremely relaxing and a great start to the night. We decided to eat dinner at the Grund restaurant which is right beside the lagoon. They have a large selection and the food was very good. After dinner, the hunt for the Northern Lights began. Our chances to see the lights were low and we put all our faith in Thor. He has a lot of experience hunting for the lights and looked for where there was the best chance to see them. We drove around based on how the maps and cloud coverage were looking. It was an extremely fun hunt and we were able to see the lights! It was the best tour I went on the entire trip. Thor definitely made the tour and is extremely personable. It was a very special trip for me and my fiancé.

Thor is such an easy-going and amicable host- he makes you feel like you are just hanging out with a friend- but don't be fooled- he knows a LOT about his country, science, and the wonders of Iceland. The secret lagoon was nothing short of amazing- not crowded, no sulfur smells, no hair freak outs due to sulfur- and the dinner after was filling and delicious. We drove around quite a bit looking for the lights- and while the odds were not in our favor, we did see some mint/lime green ones near the end of the evening. (Please remember- only Nature/the Universe is in charge of putting on a display- NOT the guides!). They were amazing to see and enjoy with some hot chocolate, aqua vitae and dark chocolate that Thor brought along. I would really recommend this tour- very personal, comfortable, and fantastic experiences with a great, great guide.
