Enter the world of Wētā Workshop with the Wētā Workshop Experience + Guided Transfers, a guided round trip by Wētā Workshop! You’ll enjoy return transfers from Wellington i-SITE to Wētā Workshop, where you’ll explore our two unique tour spaces. Your driver will highlight iconic film sites during your journey to the Wētā Cave (a cavern of creativity in it's own right!) On arrival, a Wētā Workshop crew member will show you incredible props and costumes from films like The Hobbit and The Chronicles of Narnia.

Wander through Manufacture Alley, interacting with the tools and technology of our creative departments. Hear our tales of filmmaking, see artists at work on our tour stage, and learn secrets of movie magic! Continue your journey with the Miniatures Stage Tour, where you'll visit the authentic Thunderbirds Are Go shooting stage and discover the Weta Workshop models built for the popular TV series. Your talented guide will reveal initial concepts and storyboards, then take you through the unbelievable miniatures built for the show. Includes a rare photo opportunity with the Tracy brothers!

This tour takes place in a functioning workshop, so it can get a little drafty. We recommend bringing an extra warm layer or two.
There is no luggage storage in the Weta Cave or at our tour spaces.
Photography is strictly prohibited in all tour spaces, unless specified by the tour guide.
Collapsible wheelchairs with removable wheels can be accommodated providing the passenger is accompanied by someone who can assist them on board and disembark.

This was an interesting experience with first-hand insights into prop making and special effects. If I were to add something, considering the fact that people cannot take pictures with their favourite movie characters/props, I would try to provide more interactive options.

The WETA Workshop is fascinating. I had no idea how long they have been doing film and TV work, nor how many projects they have done - Xena Warrior Princess, anyone? You don’t actually get to go into the active area where they are working on secret props and costumes for upcoming productions but you do get to peek into other areas. We met one of the creature artists and her work is fabulous. The bus ride from Wellington was lovely and our driver, Derek, was friendly and knowledgeable.

Great tour with Hannah, who was enthusiastic and engaging. Really enjoyed the details and being able to see so much about special effects, behind the scenes processes and makeup….really interesting. The artistic and imaginative creations are incredible, so clever!
