Itinerary

Lake Rotorua (Pass By)

Our Nocturnal Glow-worm tour takes 2.5 to 3 hours and includes a 2 kilometer walk. We will depart from Rotorua in a minivan, small group (8 people). Depart times vary depending on season. Once there after a walk through the darkness of native bush you will be guided by the sound of running water. Soon towering banks will rise up around you. Then in this moment turn off your flashlight and you will not be disappointed. Literally thousands of glow worms lite up like night sky, forming their own constellations all around you. At any time of the year it is unlikely that the glow worms will be the only wildlife that you encounter. Wallabies and Possums patrol the area and their rustling, along with the eerie call of the morepork, will provide the sound effects for you night walk. Out of the forest the 'star' gazing is at is best on a clear dark night sky. Come along, soak up the atmosphere and learn about New Zealand's incredible night life.

An absolute must!

This was probably one of the most unique experiences I have had on a tour. Felt more like an adventure than a tour! Stephen was a fountain of information and his passion for what he does just shone through. Even though I have done this once, if I am ever back in Rotorua , I would do this again in a heartbeat!

The tour to see the glowworms was fantastic. Stephen was an excellent guide who is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. We made stops along the way to discuss local flora and fauna which was a great bonus. The glow worms are such a unique experience. The small group setting (max 8) made the experience more intimate and allowed him to properly ensure our safety throughout the walk as well as take time to explain what we were seeing. He was even thoughtful enough to provide us some hot chocolate at the end of the tour while we did a bit of star gazing. Would absolutely recommend doing this tour.

A magical experience. Stephen is experience, professional, a font of knowledge, and has a wonderful sense of humour. Maximum size of the group, 8, is perfect. It's easy to gather round in the forest setting and hear him, and 'photo shoots' are manageable. I highly recommend this tour.

Fantastic trip with knowledgeable, engaging guide. Saw much flora and fauna, the highlight being the incredible glow worms en masse like a night sky. Highly recommended.

Must see tour! Nature walk/glow worms

Talk about a hidden gem, this tour was incredible! Steven really knows his stuff, and his passion for nature and photography is palpable. We were fortunate enough to go on a damp, but not rainy night, which apparently are some of the better conditions to see the worms. Would highly recommend over the more popular cave tours (e.g Waitomo) as the glow worm experience is just as good, but the tour is about so much more than that as we learned an incredible amount about New Zealand's indigenous plants and animals in a remote and intimate setting.
