Overview

A 5 hour glacier hiking adventure with a certified glacier guide. Hike on one of the outlet glacier connected to the massive Vatnajokull glacier, while your certified glacier guide will provide you with interesting information about the formation and history of the glacier. The Tour is operated in a small group setting guaranteeing personalized experience.

Meeting points

The tour departs from the Arctic Adventures Booking Hut, located on the parking lot of Skaftafell National Park. Skaftafell National Park is located just off of the main ring road, on road #998. Skaftafell is approximately 4.5-5 hours east of Reykjavik and 1.5 hours west of Höfn.

End point

This activity ends back at the meeting point.

Itinerary

Our Glacier Explorer tour takes you to Falljökull, one of the outlets glaciers of the Vatnajökull ice cap. You will hike through a path surrounded by the ever changing landscape carved out by the glacier. Once you arrive at the tongue of the glacier your guide will assist you to gear up on crampons and you will be exploring the amazing terrain in no time! Departure from our Skaftafell booking center. Skaftafell is located 327km (203 miles) from Reykjavík. The nearest towns to Skaftafell are Kirkjubæjarklaustur, 69km to the west and Höfn, 130km to the east.

Glacier Hike

We did the Glacier Explorer Hike. Def would consider this a moderate hike. Some more challenging elements, but plenty of time to really enjoy your surroundings and catch your breath if needed. We were truly lucky to have fantastic weather and a great guide - Darragh. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Breathtaking and well guided

Better than we could have imagined. The bus trip was interesting to the start of the hike. No idea how the driver does it. Our guide was Dara from Ireland and gave us so much information and made the hike really enjoyable. The views were breathtaking and to experience the use of crampons etc was really interesting. Dara was an excellent guide and it was an excellent trip.

We had a great time on this tour. We had booked only glacier hiking and did not combine it with ice cave since we wanted to spend more time on glacier. We did ice cave separately. The guide had lot of energy and explained a lot about glaciers. It was fun hiking on the glaciers and being awestruck by the acts of nature.

My well traveled son said it was the best experience of his life. My not well traveled son kept saying we are hiking a freakin glacier. It was gorgeous. Glacier water is the best. Sarah our guide was amazing.
