Overview

This 3/4 Day ride begins with a shuttle from Around The Basin’s shop in Queenstown out to their bike-hub at Arrow Junction (7 km away from Arrowtown). There you will be fitted to a bike and given all the info you need to know about the wineries. The first part of the ride is along a 6 km (4 miles) section of scenic bike trail. It follows the Arrow and Kawarau river gorges, over the Edgar Swing Bridge, and onto the Kawarau Bungy-Jump Bridge. The afternoon will be spent biking along the magnificent Gibbston River Trail, visiting as many of the cellar doors as you like. Enjoy a relaxed lunch at one of the wineries. If you ride all the way to the end, you will cover around 17 km (11 miles) on easy-riding, gravel bike trail. The return shuttle will pick you up at 4:30 pm from your winery of choice in the Gibbston Valley.   • Arrow Junction

    This ride starts at our bike-hub at Arrow Junction. From here, it's 6 km (4 miles) along a bike trail to the start of the Gibbston Valley Trail.

  • Kawarau Suspension Bridge

    Ride across the historic Kawarau Bridge, home of the world's first commercial bungy jumping operation. Be entertained watching bungy jumpers and zip-liners doing their thing!

  • Gibbston

    Explore the scenic wine region of Gibbston Valley at your leisure with 7 wineries, a brewery and tavern to bike between. Enjoy the freedom of spending as long as you desire at wineries of your choice, tasting world-class food and wine as you go.

  • The Church Cellar Door and Cafe

    Built in Wangaloa in 1894, this old church was relocated to Gibbston in the early 2000’s. Today instead of hymns and sermons it serves up local wines and good vibes. You will be collected from The Church at 4:30 pm for the return shuttle back to Queenstown.

A rewarding experience

We were able to move our reservation up a day due to predicted rain. The e-bike upgrade was very reasonable also and we were able to make the 60k loop to Arrowtown and back during the day ride. Manager of shop was very pleasant and accommodating before and after our ride. Strongly recommend.

Big shout out to our Welsh bike guide (very friendly and knowledgeable) who took us out to our pick up point on Nov 7. We did 3/4 day electric bike tour and my wife and I had an awesome day with the sun shining and fantastic vineyards tasting.

One of our favourite experiences in Queenstown! Such a beautiful place to explore and be outdoors. We had transport to the bikes and then free rein to get to as many wineries as we wanted to. The bike trail has incredible views and it puts such a fun twist on a wine tour! Cannot recommend this enough. If you’re in Queenstown you HAVE to book this in! :)

Brilliant fun, thought 3/4 of a day would be enough, but would did less that 1/2 the wineries and would love to have biked more and then drank more! The whole meet at the shop, van ride to bike collection point, and the comprehensive safety brief were all well run and co-ordinated. Then we were off. Following the very clearly marked bike path, Criss crossing the river at times, the weather was perfect, the bikes were smooth and well maintained. We managed 4 wineries inc lunch but the day gets away with you for sure. If I'd had another day I would have done this again to get to some other venues. Have to peddle faster and drink faster or less maybe? We got the collection point, the bikes were loaded for us and all too soon it was back in the van trundling back to QT, full of tales of differnent wines whilst comparing overall speed and distance data on our phones, ever competitive!
