Kinkaku-ji, also known as the Golden Pavilion, is a renowned Zen Buddhist temple located in Kyoto, Japan. Officially named Rokuon-ji, this iconic structure is famous for its top two floors that are entirely covered in gold leaf, giving it a stunning and reflective appearance. Originally built in 1397 as a retirement villa for the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, it was later converted into a temple by his son. The temple is set within a beautiful Japanese strolling garden and overlooks a large pond called Kyōko-chi (Mirror Pond), which reflects the building's golden image. The surrounding landscape includes carefully arranged rocks, islands, and plantings that complement the pavilion's aesthetic. Kinkaku-ji has undergone several restorations, most notably after a fire in 1950. It remains one of Japan's most visited and photographed landmarks, symbolizing the country's rich cultural heritage and architectural beauty.

Clear filterA Heartfelt Tribute to Our Exceptional Tour Guide Nas
Published on Jul, 2024
I am utterly grateful and in awe of our incredible tour guide Nas and the exceptional private itinerary he curated for us. He truly went above and beyond to deliver an unforgettable and immersive day in Kyoto and Osaka. First, Nas took us to the captivating Monkey Park in Arashiyama, where we were enchanted watching the mischievous monkeys playing, grooming each other, and scurrying about. It was such a delightful and entertaining experience. Nas then guided us to the lively Tenjin Festival and the breathtaking Hanabi Taikai fireworks display. The energy and vibrancy of these events were simply electrifying, with countless incredible performances happening right on the boats. And the long street filled with tempting street food added such a wonderful atmosphere of festivity. To cap off the day, Nas also treated us to the awe-inspiring night views of downtown Osaka. We were absolutely mesmerized by the sparkling cityscape. At each stop, Nas provided such thoughtful and insightful commentary, sharing his deep knowledge and personal experiences living in Japan. This level of depth and care made the entire day feel truly special and unforgettable. Nas' expertise, passion, and genuine hospitality elevated this private tour into an extraordinary cultural immersion that we will always cherish. We are so grateful for his exceptional service and care - he is undoubtedly a tour guide extraordinaire!
