Overview

Experience this exciting hiking and ice caving adventure of the Vatnajökull Glacier in Skaftafell National Park! As you arrive at the park, you will meet your professional glacier guide who will lead the way to some of Vatnajökull Glacier‘s spectacular ice caves and tell you all there is to know about the area. This tour includes hiking for approximately 3 hours up on the glacier visiting multiple, relatively small ice caves along the way. You will be provided with crampons for walking on the ice as well as helmets and ice axes. Waterproof clothing and hiking boots are available for rent but it is highly recommend that you bring these items with you on the tour, also food and drinks are not included.

The meeting point for this tour is at the Arctic Adventures Booking Hut in Skaftafell National park. Skaftafell is located in approx 327km (203 miles) distance from Reykjavik.

This Ice caving and glacier hiking adventure tour take place on the mighty Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier. The cave you visit on this tour is located quite high up on the glacier so a glacier hike is needed in order to reach it adding even more value to the whole glacier experience giving you two activities in one.

Spectacular experience

Our guide Luci was exceptional. Very knowledgeable about the glacier. Sad that it was so warm in February that I was sweating (and I'm in pretty good shape so I was surprised). The views were amazing and it was a fantastic day.

The ice cave/tunnel and glacier walk were fantastic. Amazing views the entire way. Our guide, Lucy, was very patient and informative. She made us feel very safe. Our favorite thing we did in Iceland!
